SHAH ALAM (Nov 21, 2008): A Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor has lodged a report with the Anti Corruption Agency (ACA) on purported corrupt practices involving council officials and players in the outdoor advertising industry.

State DAP deputy secretary Tiew Wei Keng submitted a written report plus a copy of a DVD recording of last Friday’s (Nov 14) dialogue between MBPJ, owners of outdoor advertising agencies and residents.

The recording shows among others, Ganad Media boss Gan Kok Beng revealing that he had to bribe council officers to stay in business, at the meeting called to discuss the implementation of a new State Government policy to regulate outdoor advertising.

Tiew who was accompanied by four other DAP and PKR councillors passed the materials to ACA Selangor officers at the State ACA office here at 9am this morning.

An officer received the materials addressed to State ACA director Moh Samsudin Yusoff.

I lodged the report based on what I heard and observed at the meeting,” said Tiew when contacted.

“It is downright shocking that someone can admit to bribing officials. It displays arrogance and a total contempt of the law by both the givers and receivers,” she added.

Meanwhile, the council took down two illegal billboards in Kampung Sungai Ara and Kampung Cempaka on Thursday. The illegal billboards were brought to the attention of the council at the dialogue.
